Love and Information: Rehearsals & Evaluation

Rehearsals

 

we had a very long rehearsal period, we had loads of time to learns our lines then we wold slit up into which ever groups we are performing with. As there are so many scenes within the play each scene is with 1-3 people. However in the wedding video there could be 4-5 people. I was in two scene and one video also with saying a quote after one of the wedding videos; "some people are meant to fall in love, but not meant to be together". The pieces I was involved in are called Affair and Recluse, where I was partnered up with the same person twice, however in recluse last minute decided to add an extra person to the performance. In Affair there was 2 people myself and one other and in Recluse was 3 people, myself and two others.

 

Affair

 

In affair it was very straight forward for us to rehears, it was very easy for us to learn the lines. in this part of the play you have one character telling their best friend that their boyfriend is cheating on them. I played the character that was getting told that my other half was cheating. I believe as I was also playing a best friend it was very easy to portray the on screen chemistry as I was performing with my best friend, so we had no trouble with making it work during rehearsals. The next step was deciding how we wanted to performance it and how we wanted it to look to the audience. as we was playing characters that was not given an age we was able to play around with that. so we decided to stay the same age (17). This gave us the idea of being on the phone and doing it as a phone call. We believed that a phone call would be realistic because of our age, then we realised that two people do not stand next to each other on the phone, so I was sat on stage by myself with the other character sitting in the audience. as we rehearsals we developed on the idea of how we will do it and how we will talk to make sure everyone will hear us. Along with what props, such as a mobile phone. 

 

Recluse

 

In recluse it was a it easier to work out how we was going to perform it. As its about a couple that are inside a house and a reporter outside the door trying to convince us to talk to them. So naturally our first idea was to have a door in between us ( I was part of the couple) and the reporter. However when that didn't turn out very well, as it didn't look correct to the audience we changed it. We had a our stage at the back of our performing space, with a big white block on it. the reporter was behind that block. In front of the stage I was sitting on a block rocking back and forth ( my character was a bit delusional ). My partner in the scene was standing up next to me, however he moved around. the reasoning behind the set up is because I was actually playing the gentlemen in this insistence and he's done something to his ex wife and that's what the reporter wants to get out of us. As I'm trying to convey to you that Recluse is a very intense scene with shouting, confusion, anger and fear. Rehearsing for Recluse too a  bit longer than the other scenes as it took us longer to get our heads around it but as soon as we understood how we wanted to do the scene. It was very easy for us to rehearsal for it.

Wedding video

The video was the easiest to rehears as I only had one line;" This is the bit, this is the funny bit. Watch!". Then there was only two lines after mine. we had to laugh and then it was a freeze frame then a black out. so it was easy for us perform.  Evaluation

 

Overall I really enjoyed doing this performance. On Thursday, we did two performances of Caryl Churchill's Love and Information one afternoon and one evening show. I believe that both performances went extremely well. during The first performance, it went better than the second. Personally I feel like I did better in the first knowing that this one was getting graded. I was completed focused and prepared to performance. As an individual I gave it my best and that's why I believed it was he best. Along side with enjoying myself always makes  performance better.

In the second viewing of the show, it was still very good but on my behalf I believe I didn't give it my all. I feel like I could have done a bit better and I could have been louder. However I still did well. Some of my facial expressions wasn't the best as I got very tired over time. As for the tech team and the rest of the cast was very good as the first performance was more practice for them to improve from their last performance as we all got feed back after the first one. my feed back was to simply speak louder.
