Section One - Review
This past term has set me many challenges, but it's also been very effective for me in terms of improving my skills and learning new ones along side discovering what I am good at and what I still need to improve. I strongly believe that my confidence has improved significantly, allowing me to step out of my comfort zone so that my acting to reach to higher limits. The first term involved us doing Oedipus, from this performance I learnt to come out of my skin for the first time properly and try new things. I also learnt new ways of expressing my emotions in my different characters that I have to portray, such as anger, embarrassment, happiness and also playing a character which is scared. In the Chekhov term I learnt how to include different Stanislavski techniques. I believe my skills were enhanced through the research and the classes we had on Stanislavski. this helped when going on the play different characters later on in the term such as Anya in Cherry Orchard. where my mother went through a rough time and I had a monologue expressing my concern. Another one of my characters, which was more recent I was playing Macduff in Shakespeare's play Macbeth. I also had a monologue in this play, when I found that my wife and Children were murdered. My character was distraught. My Stanislavski really came in handy at this point. to play a character which so many emotions, thoughts, feelings rushing through his body. In the Macbeth term I learnt how to use creative blocking to emphasize my character helping me with characterisation.
Section Two- Project Concept
The project concept for Love and Information by Caryl Churchill was very complex. Love and Information is a very interesting play because of the deeper meanings within each scene. My perspective of the play doesn't exactly have a story line. For example it does not have a simple beginning, middle and end. There are a lot of different scenes throughout the play with around 1-3 people win it. This allows us to work with multiple people and allows all of us to widen our skills and working better at team work. In this play there are over 100 characters with no assigned gender. This allows us creates our characters background. This helps us having a deeper connection with the characters. Although it doesn't have a story line, a lot of themes are found within the play such as love, betrayal, religion, friendships and much more, but the most exciting part of this project is that, we were given the script and was able to choose which scenes we wanted to perform having the ability to choose what we want. this was better for us as we were able to express how we wanted to feel to express our new given characters. we were told to perform it however we saw fit to it, so we created our own characters to the play and some of us even added lines to our characters to make it more believable. Also this play challenges the idea of characterisation and back stories, which I looked forward to being as creative as possible. For my character in Affair I played man which was getting harassed by paparazzi. The back story I gave to my character was that he killed his ex wife to be with another woman then moved far away to a remote forest for privacy.
Section Three: Evaluation
This past term has been challenging for me for various different reasons. however in the long run it was for the best, as I feel like I have excelled in areas of my skills that needed work and I was able to accomplish that. I believe that all four of my performances were a success, I used many of the different methods that I have been taught, over the past term. I will be evaluating my acting and all my new gained skills, such as self evaluation, teacher evaluation, pupil evaluation and audience reviews.
